Should you be a Jack of All Trades?

General / 11 June 2020

Hi everyone, in this discussion video we deal with the idea behind the saying 'jack of all trades, but a master of none' (I'm aware this is a shortened version of a larger saying that originally implied the opposite meaning).

Everything is situational and the answer to that really depends on personality dependent factors, what kinds of industries you want to work in, as well as the speed of change in those industries.

Being involved in 3D-Art and software development, the rate of change feels very rapid, however this often leads to a side-effect of many smaller emergent fields of expertise being created. If you're worried about being too specialized and backing yourself into a corner, you may not realize that you actually possess a wide range of foundation skills that got you there in the first place. There are so many possible ways to apply the knowledge you already have.
